Bellbird Park Preservation Group (BPPG) is hostile to the proposed development intended for 12-26 Eugene St (application RAL 4432/2017) located in Bellbird Park, 4300. Having existed as a large bush block for decades, it supports many species of raptors, bats, mammals, frogs, insects and aquatic wildlife such as the Platypus. However, development of the site was proposed by CB Developments Pty Ltd in June 2017 to carve up the sloping land along Woogaroo Creek into three hundred and thirty-three private residential homes. Council rejected the proposal in April 2018 on many grounds such as stormwater, amenity, access and flooding. The plans were so inconsistent with local and State government benchmarks, that conditions could not be imposed that would overcome the numerous non-compliances. However, the developer appealed the final decision with the Planning and Environment Court. BPPG are not willing to sit around and wait anxiously only to hear the roar of dozers destroy this special parcel of habitat. We ask for your help to support us in lobbying Ipswich City Council to buy back the land in perpetuity. Wildlife reserves in urban areas are poorly represented in the Ipswich Nature Conservation Strategy, which directs what should be purchased from the EnviroPlan levy. As ratepayers contributing to this fund, we want this to change. This is not just for the benefit of wildlife, but also so future generations can enjoy interacting with them and experiencing their beauty from their backyards!
