Over nineteen conservation groups including Bellbird Park Preservation Group collectively urged the Queensland Premier Hon Ms Annastacia Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier Hon Ms Jackie Trad, Hon Ms Leeanne Enoch and Hon Mr Cameron Dick to take urgent action to enact a moratorium on clearing of koala habitat across Queensland. This comes after the release of the draft South East Queensland Koala Conservation Strategy and the proposed mapping, placing the last remaining quarter of existing remnant koala habitat at risk of significant panic clearing and pre-emptive development applications under the current laws.

As expected, the public consultation on the Draft SEQ Koala Conservation Strategy closes soon on the 31 January 2020, with no easily accessible information available to the public. Conservation groups are working on this with a community meeting and information.

Public · Hosted by Queensland Conservation Council and The Wilderness Society on Tuesday 21st January from 6-8pm.

For information, the EDO have put together a brief on the Koala Conservation Strategy here.
